Installation | 2021 | model railway system on table construction |
Schloss Lind | Saustallgalerie | Neumarkt in Styria | table 100 x 400 x 80 cm
The remains of a found model railway, which had been exposed to the weather for months, were reconstructed to a dystopian landscape. The model of the railway system was originally installed in one station of the Pinkatalbahn* and was disposed of after the closure of the railway station. Model of a Dystopia is based on the classic architecture of model railways, but its appearance is completely contrary.
In the Saustallgalerie, one of the numerous outbuildings of Schloss Lind Castle, the facility could actually have been in operation, if one imagines that it was used as a hobby room away from the main house after the closing of the agricultural utilisation.
The current technical progress and its economic structures generate an ever faster change, which constantly produces waste products. Gone is not only the Pinkatalbahn and pig farming in the pigsty, but also the heyday of model train builders, and the intact depicted cultural landscapes as they are represented in the installation.
* The Pinkatalbahn Railway line connected the Hungarian city of Szombathely with Friedberg in Styria in its largest extension and had been built during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, but lost importance as a result of the Iron Curtain and was discontinued in 1997.
