The Anti-Shrts
portrait series was created from designs on old or found T-shirts. The faces of various musicians, cartoon characters and animals were given new
and (where possible) contrasting facial expressions by means of pinning, sewing,
folding and applying collage techniques to the shirts. These textile portraits were
then stretched over wooden frames, so that the character on the T-shirt is only partly
recognisable in its iconographic representation.
This series is a continuation of a sequence of works that engage with faces as indicators
of emotional states and with the physiognomy of inanimate objects.
